Mother Tongue Language
To provide a repertoire of engaging and effective learning activities to motivate our students to improve on language proficiency, appreciate their respective MT cultures and values , and be equipped with the necessary 21st century skills
With a group of dedicated and committed MT teachers, our department pledges to explore more engaging learning activities,both in the classrooms and beyond the classrooms, to build up students’ confidence in the use of their respective Mother Tongue languages and make MT a living language. We also aim to nurture our students to be a respected person in the society through consistent inculcation of moral values.
An Integrated and progressive oral skills programme for Sec 1-5.
We aim to provide more opportunities to expose students to various student centric learning activities and platforms to build up their communication skills. Examples of learning platforms are the use of iMTL portal to do voice recording, story telling contest, project presentations on specific current affair themes , class debates, and participation in externatl oratorical competitions. The various oral skills listed in the latest MTL syllabus will be covered in a systematic and progressive manner.
An Integrated and progressive reading skills programme for Sec 1-5
We aim to provide more opportunities to expose students to various student centric learning activities and platforms to build up their reading skills as we believe that reading is essential in improving students’ language ability. We will equip students with a series of fundamental and progressive reading skills in alignment to MOE syllabus to build up their reading competency . In addition, we will encourage students to read widely and read beyond textbooks through the subscription of MTL newspapers and formation of class library.
Interesting MTL Fortnight programme for language and cultural appreciation
We aim to provide a balanced MTL Fortnight programme that develop students’ interest in the learning of the language and cultures. (e.g. Drama workshop, DJ workshop, Creative writing, Cultural quiz.)
Mother Tongue Language and Cultural Fiesta (MTL & Cultural Fiesta)
In order to promote inter-schools collaboration in the learning of MTL languages and make MTL an interesting language to learn for students, we organise MTL and Cultural Fiesta on a yearly basis, providing a platform for students and teachers of the W3 cluster schools to come together and participate in engaging and meaningful inter school language and cultural competitions. This motivate students in the cluster to strive towards excellence in their MTL language proficiency and acquire depth in cultural learning.

|Gold Award for the National Create Your Own Chinese Newspaper Competition Upper Sec Category in 2015 1st for the National Create Your Own Chinese Newspaper Competition Junior Sec Category in 2016 (CL)||Our teachers have provided professional guidance for our students to equip them with the necessary editorial and creative writing skills. Their diligence has paid off as our students have achieved outstanding performace in this National Competition organised by Lian He Zao Bao.|
|Gold Award for the National Create Your Own Chinese Newspaper Competition Junior Sec Category in 2016 1st for the National Create Your Own Chinese Newspaper Competition Upper Sec Category in 2016||A group of lower sec students have interviewed three pairs of siblings with special needs and written a special report on their cordial relationships.Although our students have faced keen competition this year, they have done the school proud by clinching two top prizes in this National competition.|
|1st prize for the 14th National Chinese Creative Writing Competition in 2016||Our student took up the challenge and emerged top in this National writing competition. He has brought glory to the school and more importantly, taken this opportunity to sharpen his writing skills.|
|1st prize for the Lensa Bahasa National Inter-school Malay Language Vodcast Competition in 2014.||A group of PSS Malay students participated in Lensa Bahasa National Inter-school Malay Language Vodcast Competition organised by CPDD Malay Unit, MOE in 2013 and 2014. Students achieved 2nd prize in 2013 and 1st prize in 2014. Students were given the opportunities to integrate IT skills and the learning of Malay Language through video production.|
